Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure which rejuvenates the skin by improving superficial skin problems. Microdermabrasion involves a gentle exfoliation of the outer layer of skin using tiny particles which remove the surface layer of aged or damaged skin. Because only a small amount of skin is removed, treatment is appropriate for sensitive areas like the face, neck, chest, arms and hands. Microdermabrasion produces a fresher and more youthful looking glow, with results that are comparable to a light chemical peel.
While able to improve a variety of superficial skin problems, microdermabrasion is commonly used to treat the following:
Dr. Roland may perform microdermabrasion in his Manhattan office. Anesthesia is not necessary and treatment times average thirty minutes to an hour. A special device or handpiece is used to apply a gentle stream of tiny particles to the skin. These particles gently abrade the skin to remove the damaged outer layer which is then brushed off with a microdermabrasion vacuum tool.
The results of microdermabrasion are immediate, though multiple treatments are usually needed to achieve the full effect. Though the skin may appear slightly red or feel a bit flushed after treatment, there are virtually no side effects and work and other normal activities can be resumed immediately.

Candidates for microdermabrasion are generally looking to improve superficial skin problems, especially those occurring on sensitive areas like the face and neck. Candidates should also be in good general health and have realistic expectations that they have discussed with their plastic surgeon.
Microdermabrasion is performed in the doctor's office and takes thirty minutes to an hour to complete. Anesthesia is not needed. A special handpiece is used which releases a gentle stream of tiny particles onto the skin. These particles exfoliate and abrade the skin, thereby removing the damaged outer layer which is then removed with a special microdermabrasion vacuum tool.
There is little recovery or downtime associated with microdermabrasion. The skin may feel flushed or appear slightly red immediately after treatment; however work and other normal activities can be resumed the same day. Results are immediate, though optimum results often require multiple treatments.
