With age or significant weight loss, the skin of the thighs may begin to sag. This can prove unsightly as well as uncomfortable. The thigh lift is a surgical procedure which removes excess sagging skin and fat from the upper portion of the inner thighs.
The thigh lift is often sought by individuals who have loose, inelastic skin following weight loss from diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. It is often combined with other procedures designed to restore an attractive body proportion following massive weight loss, including the breast lift, facelift and/or arm lift.
Manhattan Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Dr. Donald Roland will be happy to meet with you for a consultation to assess your condition and discuss how the thigh lift can help you to meet your goals. He may perform the surgery at one of the desirable hospitals or surgicenters in the New York City area, typically with general anesthesia. Though various techniques may be used when making the incision, it is most often located in the groin area and may extend to the back of the thighs. Working through the incision, Dr. Roland will remove excess skin and fat before lifting and tightening the remaining skin.
Recovery after the thigh lift often involves some swelling, bruising and discomfort. Discomfort can be minimized with medication. Some type of leg support or compression garment may need to be worn for a period of time. After two weeks, most patients are able to return to work and other normal activities.
Thigh lifts improve significant sagging in the thighs by removing excess skin and fat from the upper portion of the inner thighs. This surgery can be particularly beneficial to individuals whose thighs have sagged from age or significant weight loss.
The best candidates for the thigh lift are in good physical condition with fat or loose skin of the thighs that has not responded well to diet and exercise.
The thigh lift can be particularly beneficial to individuals who have lost significant weight and are left with stretched or loose thigh skin. For this reason, the thigh lift is often combined with other procedures like the breast lift, arm lift and facelift to address sagging skin in other areas of the body.
Thigh lifts are performed in one of the hospitals or surgicenters in the New York City area, usually under general anesthesia. The incision location may vary, however it is most often placed in the groin area and it may continue to the back of the thighs. Excess skin and fat of the thighs are then removed and the remaining skin is lifted and tightened.
Following your surgery, the thighs may be swollen, bruised and uncomfortable. Medication can alleviate the discomfort. You will need to wear special leg supports or a compression garment for several weeks after your surgery. Many patients return to work and other normal activities two weeks post operatively.
