New York Body Procedures

The skin is the largest organ of the human body and many physiological states, such as pregnancy and weight loss, can yield a skin excess. Many procedures are designed to redrape the skin and better contour the remaining tissues.

Liposuction (Lipoplasty/Suction Assisted Lipectomy)

Among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat from areas around the thighs, knees, abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, breasts, neck, back, and upper arms. First, fluid is injected into the fatty tissues to make their removal quicker and less painful, then unwanted fat is removed by suction.

Liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, but the procedure can eliminate areas of fat that are unresponsive to typical weight-loss methods. In addition, finer techniques can be used to lipo-sculpt, allowing Dr. Roland to etch the divisions between the abdominal muscles yielding the "six-pack" appearance. After liposuction or liposculpture, a compressive garment is worn for four to six weeks to allow the skin to shrink to your new, leaner size.

Abdominoplasty ("Tummy Tuck")

Generally referred to as a "tummy tuck", an abdominoplasty removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen; it also flattens the abdominal profile by tightening the underlying muscles. Dr. Roland has been performing abdominoplasties with excellent cosmetic results for many years. Women with stretched abdominal areas due to previous pregnancies or weight gain can benefit considerably from an abdominoplasty. Older individuals whose skin has lost some of its "snap" and are slightly obese can experience great improvement in this area.

Mommy Makeover

Two of the most common procedures to be performed at the same time are an abdominoplasty combined with a breast lift. Dr. Roland calls this combination a Mommy Makeover, due to these areas often revealing the dramatic changes a woman's body goes through during pregnancy. The result is a completely revitalized view of yourself in the mirror. Many Mothers treat themselves to a Mommy Makeover when they've finished having children and desire to return to a more youthful shape. Dr. Roland will assess your medical condition, and overall health, to evaluate if you are a candidate for this extensive surgery performed under general anesthesia.

Buttock Augmentation

If you want to enlarge or re-shape your buttocks and have discovered that this area does not respond to exercise or diet, buttock augmentation may be the solution you've been looking for. A buttock augmentation (butt augmentation) or buttock lift (butt lift) contours the buttocks and compensates for low amounts of fat in the area. Women and men who augment their bottoms can enjoy a more shapely profile. Augmentation may be achieved through injections of your own body fat or with solid silicone implants.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Brachioplasty is surgically recontouring the upper arms. With age this area becomes loose and fatty, making it embarrassing to wear even a basic t-shirt. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia or deep sedation. In order to remove the unwanted skin, an incision is made that may run from near the elbow into the armpit. The incision is placed in the most inconspicuous location (inner arm toward the back), but some scarring is almost always visible. Occasionally the surgery can be performed by limiting the scarring to the armpit and liposuctioning the remainder of the upper arm. Dr. Roland will explain which procedure you're a candidate for during your evaluation.

Thigh Lift

A thigh lift is performed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper inner thighs. Candidates typically suffer from loose, inelastic skin after extreme weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often included with breast lifts, facelifts and arm lifts in the surgical planning to regain an attractive body proportion after massive weight loss.

Body Lift (Belt Lipectomy)

Also called Circumferential Torsoplasty, the body lift is performed to remove excess skin and fat from the torso. It is a complicated procedure that can take three to seven hours under general anesthesia and involves a difficult recovery period of four to six weeks. Candidates for body lifts typically either cannot lose significant amounts of weight, or already suffer from loose (inelastic) skin on many or most areas of the body as a result of age, childbearing or extreme weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery.

During the procedure, skin is lifted from underlying tissues, excising what is redundant and then suturing the remainder closed. The navel is often removed and replaced in its new position. Surgical drains are needed for several days to weeks, and patients need to wear compression garments for weeks to facilitate faster healing.

After surgery, patients are encouraged to walk as soon as they are able, although strenuous activities must be limited for about a month. Results are visible immediately.

Often times this surgery is performed in two separate operations approximately four months apart. First the frontal tissue is removed, then once healed the back is addressed. For some patients not undergoing one very large operation is a welcome option.

Female Genitalia Surgery

This surgery focuses on the labia minora, which when too large can be a source of pain and embarrassment during activities. Many women can have a significant discrepancy from one side to the other which causes them to pursue a one sided procedure to achieve symmetry. The surgery is less painful than might be anticipated, and the results permanent.
