Body Procedures - New York City
The skin is the largest organ of the human body and many physiological states, such as pregnancy and weight loss (or gain), can yield a skin (or fat) excess. Many procedures are designed to redrape the skin and better contour the remaining tissues.
Liposuction
(Lipoplasty/Suction Lipectomy)
Among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat from areas around the thighs, knees, abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, breasts, neck, back, and upper arms. First, fluid is injected into the fatty tissues to make their removal quicker and less painful, then unwanted fat is removed by suction.
Liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, but the procedure can eliminate areas of fat that are unresponsive to typical weight-loss methods. In addition, finer techniques can be used to lipo-sculpt, allowing Dr. Roland to etch the divisions between the abdominal muscles yielding the "six-pack" appearance. After liposuction or liposculpture, a compressive garment is worn for four to six weeks to allow the skin to shrink to your new, leaner size.

Abdominoplasty ("Tummy Tuck")
Generally referred to as a "tummy tuck", an abdominoplasty removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen; it also flattens the abdominal profile by tightening the underlying muscles. Women, with stretched abdominal areas due to previous pregnancies or weight gain, can benefit considerably from an abdominoplasty. Older individuals whose skin has lost some of its "snap" and are slightly obese can experience great improvement in their abdominal area.
If you are generally in good physical condition but concerned about abdominal fat deposits or loose skin that is not responding to diet and exercise, the procedure can potentially reduce or eliminate a protruding abdomen. Abdominoplasty can produce a thin but permanent scar extending to both sides of your hips, though the scar will most likely be located below the bikini line.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
Brachioplasty is surgically recontouring the arms. With age, the area underneath the upper arm becomes loose and fatty, making it embarrassing to wear even the basic t-shirt. The procedure is simple, usually performed under general anesthesia or deep sedation. In order to remove the unwanted skin, an incision is made that may run from near the elbow into the armpit. The incision is placed in the most inconspicuous location (inner arm toward the back), but some scarring is almost always visible.

Thigh Lift
A thigh lift is performed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper legs. Candidates typically suffer from loose, inelastic skin after extreme weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breastlifts, facelifts and armlifts to retain an attractive body proportion.

Body Lift (Belt Lipectomy)
Also called Circumferential Torsoplasty, Panniculectomy and Lipectomy, the body lift is performed to remove excess skin and sometimes also fat from the torso and upper legs. It is a complicated procedure that can take three to seven hours under general anesthesia and involves a difficult recovery period of four to six weeks. Candidates for body lifts typically either cannot lose significant amounts of weight, or already suffer from loose (inelastic) skin on many or most areas of the body as a result of age, childbearing or extreme weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breastlifts, facelifts, and armlifts to retain a proper body proportion. Body lifts can tighten and tone the abdomen, back, buttocks, hips and thighs.
During the procedure, skin is lifted from underlying tissues, and then sutured closed. The navel is often removed and replaced in its new position. Surgical tubes may be needed for several days to drain any fluid, and patients need to wear compression garments for weeks to facilitate faster healing.
After surgery, patients are encouraged to walk as soon as they are able, although strenuous activities must be limited for about a month. Results are visible immediately.

Female Genitalia Surgery
This surgery focuses on the labia minora, which when too large can be a source of pain and embarrassment during activities. Many women can have a significant discrepancy from one side to the other which causes them to pursue a one sided procedure to achieve symmetry. The surgery is less painful than might be anticipated, and the results permanent.
