Obagi Skin Care

As you age and your skin incurs the abuse of daily living (such as sun, stress, pollution), the cell turnover rate slows down. This means that the new cells take longer to form and reach the top. The old cells accumulate and stay on the surface longer. You begin to notice those unwelcome signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and age spots, uneven skin tone, loss of elasticity and loss of natural skin hydration. The Obagi Nu-Derm System, prescribed by Dr. Roland, accelerates the cellular turnover. This System penetrates deep to improve the damaged skin. It boosts the skin to improve its cellular function, thereby helping it look and act healthier. The System triggers a Therapeutic Cascade™ of actions that:

  • Pushes fresher cells to the surface faster, for smoother skin, reduced wrinkles and increased tolerance.
  • Reduces mottled pigmentation (freckles and age spots) and helps prevent the appearance of new pigmentation.
  • Promotes more uniform cells at the deepest layers for a better skin structure and a more even skin tone.
  • Helps increase collagen and elastin for firmer, more resilient looking skin.
  • Increases nutrients natural hydration and circulation for supple, healthy-looking skin.

This system is often used as a precursor to your facial surgery. This allows the skin to be in tip-top shape prior to your procedure. Additionally this regimen can be used alone to achieve and maintain the skin you've always wanted. The Obagi blue peel is also used as an adjunct in treating your facial skin. Dr. Roland will advise you of these options during your consultation in our New York City office.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic, or botulinum toxin type A, is a protein commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, and forehead to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines on the neck. A BOTOX® brow lift targets raising the outside corner of the eyebrow to replace this part of the face to its proper position. These injections block nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look.

BOTOX® may also be useful for excessive sweating.

Restylane® / Perlane®

RESTYLANE / PERLANE is designed to smooth wrinkles, sculpt lips and shape facial contours. These are clear gels composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found throughout your body. The amount of cross linking is what determines which of these products is used in the different areas of the face. These synthetic acids carrylittle risk of allergic reaction. The most common areas for treatment are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the tear trough beneath the eye, and the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of your mouth). With its unique ability to bind with water, RESTYLANE / PERLANE remains in your skin for six, or more, months.

Sculptra™

Sculptra is an injectable product used to fill in sunken areas of the face in patients who suffer from lipoatrophy or facial wasting. Injected into the deep dermis layer of the skin, Sculptra™ increases skin thickness over time to improve the appearance of sunken cheeks, hollow eyes, indentations and wrinkles.

Radiesse®

Radiesse is an injectable implant material that can fill the lines around the face, especially the laugh lines. Unlike bovine collagen, no allergy testing is required. Best of all, Radiesse lasts years as opposed to months. Although slightly more costly than Collagen, in the long term, less money is actually spent. Other applications for Radiesse® include filling out depressions and scars on the face. The correction achieved is both predictable and long lasting.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion improves mild to moderate sun damage, scarring, wrinkles and other superficial skin problems. A gentle stream of tiny particles exfoliates the outer layer of skin and provides a fresh, glowing, younger appearance. The particles remove the surface layer of aging or damaged skin, which is then brushed off with the microdermabrasion vacuum tool with no need for anesthesia. Only a small amount of skin is removed, so sensitive areas such as the face, chest, neck, arms and hands can be treated. Results are comparable to a light chemical peel and should be immediately visible. Multiple treatments are recommended for full effect.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face to smooth texture, reduce scarring, and remove blemishes and pre-cancerous growths to produce healthy, glowing skin. Peel formulas and strengths are tailored to each patient. Peels can be combined with other procedures such as facelifts for a younger look.

Fat Injections

Also called micro-lipoinjection or autologous fat transfer, fat injection involves the removal and relocation of the patient's own body fat to plump up an area. Most commonly this procedure is combined with face-lifting and other facial rejuvenation procedures to further replace what has been lost over the years. Fat is removed through liposuction, often from the abdomen, buttocks or thighs. It is then processed and injected into the area being treated.

The procedure is also commonly performed as an isolated lunch time procedure for lip augmentation as well as laugh line reduction. Because the transplanted fat comes from the patient, it does not carry a risk of allergic reaction. Other advantages include a short recovery time, long-lasting results and effectiveness on any skin type.

Deep Pore Cleansing Facials

As we age, the rate at which our skin sheds and replenishes itself slows down. This leaves a layer of dead cells on the surface of the skin, contributing to an aged appearance. Facial peels help exfoliate the damaged layer to reveal the younger, healthier skin beneath. Made of natural fruit and plant extracts, essential oils, vitamins, collagen, elastin or other ingredients, facials are a faster and gentler alternative to laser resurfacing. Applied in a series of 15- to 20-minute treatments over several weeks, facials reduce the signs of aging and can also improve skin conditions such as acne, dry or oily skin, and uneven texture or pigmentation. Peel strengths and formulas are tailored to each patient for optimal results.

Laser Skin Treatments

New to our procedure line up is the addition of the Lumenis Laser. This CO2 laser has become our ally in turning back the hands of time. This versatile machine has multiple settings to either superficially resurface the skin, or to penetrate deeper to stimulate collagen regeneration. If you are deemed a suitable candidate, both of these modalities can be performed in the same setting. The healing time is greatly reduced secondary to the fractionated pattern of the laser. Brown spots, wrinkles, texture and skin laxity can all be improved. This treatment can also be safely performed during other facial procedures such as facelifts and blepharoplasties to give that finishing touch to your facial appearance.
