Also referred to as micro-lipoinjection and autologous fat transfer, fat injection is a procedure in which the patient's own body fat is taken from an area of excess and then transferred to an area to add volume. Fat transfer can replace fullness that has decreased with age to restore a smoother, more youthful appearance, and it is commonly combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as the facelift. Fat transfer is very effective in reducing laugh lines and plumping the lips.
Fat transfer has many advantages over other options. There is no risk of allergic reaction since the transplanted fat comes from the patient. Furthermore, the procedure is effective on any skin type, the recovery time is short and results are long lasting. Dr. Roland will be happy to meet with you for a consultation in his Manhattan office to determine if fat transfer can help you to achieve your desired results.
Fat transfer may be performed in Dr. Roland's Manhattan office or in one of the desirable hospitals or surgicenters in New York City. Surgical times typically average one hour or less and local anesthesia is commonly used. The fat is removed through liposuction from an area of excess such as the abdomen, buttocks or thighs. Once removed, it is processed and then injected into the treatment area.
Recovery following fat transfer is usually brief and patients can often resume their normal routine right away. Pain or discomfort tends to be minimal, though some bruising, swelling and redness can occur.
Fat transfer, also known as micro-lipoinjection and autologous fat transfer, is a minimally invasive procedure which can restore volume and fullness that has diminished with age. Fat transfer is a good solution for improving laugh lines and other skin depressions and for plumping the lips. After your fat transfer procedure, your skin will appear smoother and more youthful.
Candidates for fat transfer are generally looking to rejuvenate the skin or add fullness to the lips. It is also important that candidates be in good general health and that they have realistic expectations that have been discussed with their plastic surgeon.
Fat transfer provides a good alternative to many other skin rejuvenation techniques as it has no risk of allergic reaction, can be used on any skin type, involves minimal recovery and produces long-lasting results. It is also often combined with other procedures such as the facelift.
Fat transfer may be performed in the surgeon's office based facility or in one of the New York City area's hospitals or surgicenters. Local anesthesia is often used and procedure times average one hour or less. Dr. Roland will use gentle liposuction techniques through very small incisions to remove fat from an area of excess. Common areas include the abdomen, buttocks or thighs. The fat is then processed and carefully injected into the treatment area to restore volume.
Fat transfer involves a relatively brief recovery which may involve some minor bruising, redness or swelling. Discomfort is usually minimal. Most patients can immediately resume their normal routine postoperatively.
Although rare, post-operative complications from fat transfer are possible and may include anesthesia reaction, uneven correction, infection and poor healing.
