Facial Cosmetic Surgery Procedures in New York City
Our face often makes our first impression; current facial plastic surgery techniques favor a more natural appearing outcome than years ago. The impression of appearing tired can be eliminated using today’s surgical procedures.
Facelift (Rhytidectomy)
Our face changes as we age, our skin loses its' elasticity and begins to fold in several locations. Muscular bands also become apparent. A face-lift restores the look of your youth by helping to alleviate those features which indicate signs of aging. The cheeks are elevated, facial folds are flattened, jowls are tightened, the neck is lifted and redraped, and excess skin is removed. Your appearance is not replaced, but a younger appearance is re-established.
There are several variations of face-lifts. Skin-only face-lifts were popular many years ago and are still performed in appropriate situations. Intermediate depth face lifts achieve their lift at deeper levels by also elevating the layer of tissue just above the facial muscles. Deep plane face lifts strive to achieve these changes by elevating all the soft tissues from just above the facial skeleton. The incisions are typically made just in front of the ear, wrapped around the back of the ear and hidden within the hairline. These incisions, and the various types of lifts are tailored to your anatomy and your desired result. The day after your procedure the dressings are removed. The amount of swelling you may have varies, but you can resume most normal activities within a week and should show few signs of your procedure by three weeks.

Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)
Frown lines and furrows above the nose and in the middle of the forehead can give an unwanted angry appearance. Frequent facial movements create these wrinkles causing us to look tired, serious, and unhappy.
A brow lift eliminates these lines and is one of the only procedures where the plastic surgeon can completely hide scars within the hair. Very often this procedure is performed using a minimally invasive endoscopic technique, lending itself to a quicker healing time. A brow lift can also restore the eyebrows to a higher, more youthful position while eliminating extra skin gathered on the upper eye-lid.

Neck Lift
A neck lift is comparable to a face lift, however, the neck can often be improved with smaller procedures, or liposuction alone. Such smaller procedures can involve suspending the neck tissues by less invasive means, or direct removal of neck skin in older male patients leaving an inconspicuous scar within a skin crease.

Contour Thread Lift
In select patients, each of the areas mentioned above (Face Lift, Brow Lift, Neck Lift) can be addressed with a new, exciting, minimally invasive technique. Contour Thread Lift technology uses state of the art non-absorbable barbed sutures approved by the FDA for minimally invasive facial lifting procedures. These procedures are performed under local anesthetic in our office where Dr. Roland customizes this technique based on our patients needs. Minimal well-hidden scars make these procedures attractive to our patients who are not quite ready for more extensive surgeries.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Age is often deduced from the appearance of our eyes. These "windows into our souls" can give a tired run-down impression. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is designed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. The procedure can correct over-hanging skin found on the upper lid that can sag over time, and can also correct the puffy bags that develop below the eyes. Blepharoplasty can either be done as a single procedure, but also works well with other facial surgery such as a facelift or a browlift.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)
The nose is the most prominent feature on the human face. This is why the nose can be a source of angst for those made uncomfortable by a large, or poorly shaped nose. Rhinoplasties can be designed to reduce the nasal tip, narrow the width, straighten a curve, flatten a bump, or raise the profile. These procedures are always individualized to meet each patient's needs and expectations. All rhinoplasties are performed through predominantly internal incisions. Healing of these incisions is rapid and swelling is limited with medications. Occasionally, non cosmetic aspects of rhinoplasties can be covered by medical insurance providers when breathing problems are present.

Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation is the use of synthetic implants, or your own chin, to increase the size and prominence of this feature. It can give balance to an otherwise less defined face or further enhance your chin structure. Chin augmentation is frequently performed in conjunction with rhinoplasties (nose reshaping) in order to provide more aesthetic balance to your face.

Otoplasty (Ear Pinning Surgery)
Otoplasty corrects protruding ears. An incision is made in the natural creases behind the ear and the cartilage is weakened, allowing flexibility to bend the ear into a new shape. The cartilage is then stitched into position, holding the ear in place. This procedure can be performed in adults as well as children.

Earlobe Surgery
Many women suffer from stretched or torn earlobes from years of wearing heavy earrings. This simple, in office procedure can reverse this damage. The earlobes' contour is restored and new piercings can be done complimentary in our office as soon as two weeks after the procedure.

Scalp Reduction
Many men maintain their hairline only to have a bald spot on the crown of their head. In this situation, hair transplants may not be necessary. Many times the bald spot can be significantly reduced, or eliminated with a scalp reduction. Here the bald spot is excised and surgically designed flaps are created to bring the remaining hair bearing scalp together. The recovery is fast and the results are impressive.

Scar Revision
Scar revision is performed to reduce the appearance of scars caused by injury or previous surgery. While scars are permanent by definition, surgery can narrow, fade and otherwise reduce the appearance of severe or unattractive scarring, which is especially helpful in areas of cosmetic importance such as the face and hands.
There are many surgical methods of scar revision, only some of which may be appropriate for a particular type of scar or its location. These include surgical excision, skin grafts, flap surgery and Z-plasty (repositioning a scar so that it aligns with the face and is less noticeable). The effectiveness of scar reduction depends on a number of factors, including the nature of the injury, your body's healing mechanism, the size and depth of the wound, how much blood supplies the area and the thickness and color of your skin.
