Necklift New York

Due to age, weight loss or heredity, the neck can develop unwanted changes such as fleshiness, jowls, bands and a "turkey waddle". These can be improved with a necklift. This surgical procedure is comparable to a facelift, however the neck alone can be treated with smaller, less invasive procedures or even liposuction alone. The necklift can suspend the neck tissue in the midline of the neck, often through inconspicuous incisions made within the skin crease beneath the chin.

Dr. Roland will evaluate your neck and face during your consultation in our Manhattan office in order to determine the best approach to meet your desired results. The neck lift surgery may be performed in Dr. Roland's New York City office or at one of Manhattan's desirable hospitals or surgicenters. General anesthesia or local anesthesia combined with sedation may be used and surgical times average two to three hours. Incisions are often made in the crease beneath the chin and sometimes behind the ears. Through these incisions, Dr. Roland may alter the neck muscles and/or remove excess skin and elevate the remaining skin. If the less invasive endoscopic technique is used, the incisions are generally very small and the recovery time is often shorter.

Some swelling, bruising, discomfort and/or numbness may occur after the necklift. Medication can help to alleviate discomfort. A compression garment will need to be worn for several weeks to help support the new contours of the neck and to minimize swelling. Stitches are removed within seven to ten days and work can often be resumed after ten to fourteen days.

Commonly Asked Questions Concerning Your Necklift

What can a necklift do for me?

The necklift rejuvenates the neck by improving fleshiness, jowls, neck bands and a “turkey waddle”. Though comparable to a facelift, the necklift is a smaller, less invasive procedure which addresses the neck alone by lifting the midline tissues of the neck.

What won't a necklift correct?

The necklift does not address the lower face as a facelift will, or the brow, eyelids or midface.

Am I a good candidate for a necklift?

The best candidates for a necklift are looking to improve excess skin or fat in the neck which often occur from age or weight loss. Candidates should also be in good general health, should not smoke, and should have realistic expectations that they have discussed with their plastic surgeon.

How is a necklift performed?

The necklift is performed in an office-based facility or in one of the New York City area’s surgery centers or hospitals. The surgery is performed in two to three hours under general or local anesthesia. Small, inconspicuous incisions are made in the crease beneath the chin and sometimes behind the ears. The neck muscles are then altered, excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is lifted. The surgery may be performed endoscopically in which recovery times are minimized and incisions are smaller.

What is the recovery from a necklift like?

After your necklift, a compression garment will be worn for several weeks. Your neck may be swollen, bruised or uncomfortable for a period of time. Medication can be taken to relieve discomfort. Stitches are removed after seven to ten days. Most patients can return to work ten to fourteen days post operatively.

What are the risks of the necklift?

Possible complications of the necklift include: bleeding, infection, anesthesia reaction, asymmetry, and poor healing. Dr. Roland will discuss the risks and benefits of the necklift with you prior to your surgery during consultation in his Manhattan office.
